Poker Tweets: Las Vegas Shooting

Las Vegas ShootingOn Sunday evening, an open-air country-music concert taking place in Las Vegas suddenly became the target of crazed lone gunman, Stephen Paddock, 64, who opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel at the crowd below. At least 59 people were killed in the attack, and another 527 injured, leaving the local community, as well as those further afield feeling devastated and bewildered over one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.
As of yet, there have been no clear reason found as to the motive behind the mass killings, but in the meantime the poker community has been expressing their horror, sympathies, and views on the terrible event. Here are some of those views, starting with Daniel Negreanu who has pointed the finger squarely at the USA’s liberal gun laws:
Daniel Negreanu
“More shootings in America by GUNS than any country in the world. This is FACT! NRA won’t even CONSIDER gun control because they are SCUM..
I hate guns.
I hate unnecessary death.
I hate the NRA.
Always will and proud of it. Guns are stupid and the NRA is putrid scum.”
Needless to say, not everyone agreed with Negreanu’s thoughts on the matter, as can be seen by the following tweets:
Daniel Cates
“refusing to blast personal ignorant view on complicated issue (guns) on internet now after an unfortunate event happens.. I feel like there should be a tax on people stating unscientific/not facts as facts. Like, you can say stupid shit but you gotta pay money.”
Todd Brunson
“I just went off in some Dumbass German fuck who wanted to imply something like ‘you got what u deserved’.”
Jimmy Fricke
“To literally anyone who uses this as a reason to legislate or draw some insane conclusion: go fuck yourselves.. If you try to solve the world’s problems by stopping every disaster the day after it happened, you’re never going to succeed.”
In the meantime, the police and media have been searching for a motive behind the attack, with the Associated Press apparently reporting a possible link to terrorists:
The Associated Press
“Without providing evidence, Islamic State claims Las Vegas attack, says shooter converted to Islam months ago.”
Mike Matusow
“Dear god this better not come to be true!”
Finally, the poker community was quick to express its sympathies to those affected by the lone wolf attack, with the numerous messages including the following tweets:
Jason Mercier
“So sad to wake up to this. Praying for Vegas, praying for humanity”
Phil Hellmuth
“Sending prayers to the victims, and families of the victims, in Las Vegas.”
Liv Boeree
“Thinking of you, Las Vegas. Look after each other”
Doyle Brunson
“So proud of our hospitals. Every person that made it to our hospitals that were alive when they got there, they are still alive.#amazing”
