Poker Tweets: Doyle Brunson Quits Twitter for Now!

Poker Tweets: Doyle Brunson Quits Twitter for Now!Doyle Brunson is known as The Godfather of Poker, with the 84 year-old having earned his honorary title through being at the top of the high stakes cash game scene for decades, as well as picking up 10 WSOP bracelets, including back-to-back Main Event wins in 1976 and 1977. It is no wonder, then, that the living poker legend is a popular draw on twitter, where he enjoys the support of more than 432k followers.
I say enjoys, but it now appears Brunson is set to give tweeting a break for a while, following a heated discussion that broke out on his twitter account after he expressed his views on the right to bear arms. Brunson’s comment was made in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting which took place on October 1st, and as he wrote soon after:
“Can’t take away our guns. Then only the criminals would have them. I’m gonna talk to security about the hope of having guns in poker rooms.”
Brunson’s tweet subsequently elicited a series of heated responses from pros such as Daniel Negreanu and Simone Deadman, as well as members of the public who expressed their outrage over his comments. Having felt hounded for his beliefs, Brunson subsequently posted the following message on October 7th, and has not been heard of on twitter since:
“I’m taking an extended break from twitter. It has ceased to be fun.”
In the meantime, Brunson’s last tweet has received 146 comments and 397 likes so far, with players lining up on both sides of the controversial guns argument. Some of the best responses are noted here below:
Todd Anderson
“Maybe if you switched to less controversial twitter subjects like abortion, or religion, or who’s better the Beatles or the Stones.”
johnbo smith
“Don’t let idiots keep u away from your real fans”
Lyft Ride Convos
“Bye. It’s hard living in reality where you helped elect a treasonous traitor due to sexism and cling to murder weapons for “protection”
jake lipton
“terrorist attacks rarely use guns the point is taking guns away wont stop mass murders and it will give more control to criminals and govt”
Finally, some of Doyle’s fans who obviously do not want to see the poker legend abandon his twitter post offered him some homespun advice, including Steven B who tweeted:
“Be careful. You don’t have many extended breaks left.”
.. and Kev, who wrote:
“I tried the muted words feature but didn’t work. Two words block 90% negativity look into it”
