Norway's Elisabeth Hille Now A Betfair Pro
July 26, 2012 12:57 pmThe dream of a woman reaching a WSOP Main Event final table for the first time since Barbera Enright in 1995, faded after Norway’s Elisabeth Hille (11th) and France’s Gaelle Baumann (10th) were eliminated just short of an October Nine spot by Andras Koroknai from Hungary.
Both ladies collected a well deserved $590,442 for their deep run, but for Elisabeth Hille the adventure is just starting after signing a sponsorship deal with Befair. In fact, Elisabeth Hille was still taking place in the Main Event with roughly 27 of the 6,598 starting field remaining when Betfair posted the news:
“Betfair Poker is proud to announce that they have captured the signature of young Norwegian poker player Elisabeth Hille as a Team Betfair Ambassador.”
Prior to her new found fame as a poker player, Elisabeth Hille, 26, was working as a full-time waitress in Norway. However, Hille is also a keen amateur player of four years and only entered the Main Event by virtue of having a 50% stake of her boyfriend and Betfair Poker regular Harald Olsen, who cashed in at the $1k NL event for $22,700. That gave Hille the buy-in she needed to compete in tournament poker’s most prestigious event, and the rest is history.
Talking about her views on the game, Elisabeth Hille commented: “Poker is a very misunderstood game in Norway. I’d love it if more Norwegian girls got into poker because most of it is all online right now. I fell in love with the game straight away.”
Hille now has the opportunity to inspire other girls to take up the game in her new role as Betfair poker ambassador for Norway. She also becomes part of the site’s roster of pros, which includes Peter Eastgate, John Tabatabai, Hans Vogl and Jon Driscoll.
