Michael Mizrachi Breeders Cup Sponsorship Renewed
May 16, 2012 12:44 pmLast year, thoroughbred horse racing organizers Breeders’ Cup Ltd agreed a sponsorship deal with poker pro Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi. Almost one year on and the company has decided to extend Mizrachi’s contract for another year, with Vice President of Entertainment and Media for the Breeders’ Cup Peter Rotondo, stating:
“We have been pleased with our initial step into the poker world and Michael has been a terrific advocate for us. We look forward to year two of our working relationship, especially the Breeders’ Cup Celebrity Invitational and Betting Challenge.”
The US pro with $12 millions in tournament poker winnings also claims to have been a huge horse racing fan for years. It was then hoped having the US player on board would help attract other poker pros to the race course as well as raising awareness of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships which enjoys around $160 million in liquidity over the two-day event.
In addition, Michael Mizrachi helped host the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Celebrity Poker Invitational which was presented by The Deepstacks Poker Tour. Amongst the pros attending the $230 buy-in charity tournament were Mike Matusow, Karina Jett and John Racener and as Mizrachi stated at the time:
“Poker and horse racing are a natural fit as there’s action, excitement and high stakes in both. I’m really excited to host this event and to help connect the horse racing and poker communities.”
The timing of this year’s poker tournament will be announced later, while the Breeders’ Cup World Championships will take place on November 2nd and 3rd at Santa Anita Park in California. Commenting on his partnership deal, Mizrachi said:
“Partnering with the Breeders’ Cup has been amazing. I look forward to fine-tuning my handicapping skills as I prepare for the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge. Check my Twitter and Facebook accounts for updates as I plan to visit a number of tracks throughout the summer.”
