Cate Hall Beats Mike Dentale for $30,000

At the end of last year, a twitter war of words broke out between Mike Dentale and Cate Hall after the former accused the latter of being “clueless”. During their ensuing mud-slinging match, Dentale went on to question Hall’s poker pedigree, and at one stage sarcastically commented:
“I heard @catehall has been playing well. Funny when the cards don’t go your way you have to rely on skill.”
Cate Hall then challenged Dentale to a best of three heads-up “Grudge Match”, and in a case of divine irony he got smashed 2-0 on Sunday night for $30,000, after which the muscle-bound pro decried his bad luck. Commenting on the match was Doug Polk and Shaun Deeb, who during their post-contest interview with Dentale, were hardly able to get a word in edgeways, and as Dan O’Brien later tweeted:
“Mike after this match is case in point how NOT to evaluate a poker session. His own play is meaningless to him; he’s just telling bad beats.”
Nevertheless, while most commentators agree that Dentale was card dead for much of the time, there also seems to be a consensus that Hall was the better player during the match, and deserved the victory. There also seems to be agreement that the contest was very entertaining, with Matt Glantz tweeting:
“So much thanks to @Mikunbelievable & @catehall for coming through for us today & @DougPolkPoker & @shaundeeb for keeping us glued all day.”
Having taken care of one highly opinionated and aggressive player, Cate Hall has now set her sights on someone else who has been making disparaging remarks about women poker players recently, namely Dan Bilzerian. As the millionaire playboy tweeted to Cate Hall ahead of her match:
“I don’t even know who you’re playing, but I want to bet against you because you are a woman and women can’t play poker.”
