Isidur1 Loses $490k Pot But Wins $1.2m Battle Against Polk

Isidur1 Loses $490k Pot But Wins $1.2m Battle Against PolkAmerican online pro Douglas “WCGRider” Polk may have won one of the largest pots of the year whilst playing against Sweden’s Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, but at the end of their marathon 7 hour heads-up session, Polk eventually found himself out-of-pocket by a staggering $1.2 million.
A few days ago, Polk had walked away a $160,000 winner after completing his highly publicized heads-up challenge on Full Tilt Poker against Ben “Sauce1234” Sulsky. Perhaps buoyed by his recent victory, Polk then decided to engage Viktor Blom in a multi-table heads-up $400/$800 NLHE match, although the stakes were a bit higher than he usually plays.
At one stage, Polk was subsequently able to pull away to a $450k lead, helped along by a huge $490,096 pot in which Polk (Ac-Kc) and Blom (10-10) were all-in on a 10c-5c-2c flop. The board then produced a harmless Q and A to cost Isildur an instant $245k of his bankroll.
Nevertheless, that hand proved somewhat of a turning point for the match, which then decidedly swung in Blom’s favour, including dragging in another big pot in which his A-K won the race against Polk’s Q-Q.
At one stage Isildur1 was actually up by more than $1.5 million for the session, but proceeded to dump back $300k of that tally before the pair decided to call it quits.
Thanks to his $1.2 million win on the day, Viktor Blom has once more attained the status of biggest online cash game winner of 2013 with $3,606,190 in earnings, while Polk, too is still showing a profit of $480,000.
Other big winners for the year include Ben “Bttech86” Tollerene (+$2,831,504), and Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius (+ $1,812,761), whilst the biggest losers of the year include Gus Hansen (-$5,638,378) and Phil “Polarizing” Ivey (-$2,433,773).
