Victor Chandler Sponsors West Brom and Nottingham Forest In Tonight's Clash
January 8, 2010 11:29 amWest Bromwich Albion have been playing in unsponsored shirts for their second consecutive season, while they try to find a suitable long term sponsor for the club. In the meantime, the football club is taking advantage of the situation and since late November, have been offering businesses shirt sponsorship opportunities on a game by game basis.
Victor Chandler are the main sponsors of Nottingham Forest, and this Friday Forest will take West Brom on in one of the biggest Championship games of the season. After a 17 game unbeaten run, Nottingham Forest are now hot on the heels of West Bromwich Albion for a promotion spot. However, in a rare spectacle, both teams will be flying the Victor Chandler logo on their sports shirts.
Following the deal, West Brom Finance Director Mark Jenkins said, “We are delighted to have teamed up with Victor Chandler for Friday’s game. There cannot have been too many occasions when a company has sponsored the shirts of two opposing teams.”
The Victor Chandler Chairman seemed obviously pleased with the situation too, although he was understandably diplomatic in his comments: “I am delighted we have reached agreement with West Brom so the Victor Chandler name will be carried by both teams on Friday evening. West Brom and Forest are having fantastic seasons and although West Brom enter the match as odds-on favourites I’ll have to sit on the fence and predict a draw!”
The Championship clash will be shown live at 7.45pm on Sky Sports, allowing the West Brom sponsor to reach a wide targeted audience. With two more upcoming West Brom televised games on the horizon, one of which is against Championship giants Newcastle, sponsors must surely now be lining up to strike a deal with the club.
