UFC Superstar Georges St-Pierre Joins Team 888 Poker

Yesterday, online gambling company 888.com announced that UFC Welterweight title holder Georges “Rush St-Pierre” was to be their newest global ambassador.
The 12 month contract will now see the French Canadian mixed martial artist take part in a number of live and online poker tournaments representing the site, and commenting on the deal the 30 year-old said:
“I am very excited to become a global brand ambassador for Team 888poker. I have wanted to play poker for a while now as it is a great game of skill. It is not just your cards versus my cards; it is you versus your opponent.”
However, Georges St-Pierre was keen to emphasise that a big consideration when taking on the role of ambassador was the the funds that would then be raised for his foundation dedicated to anti-bullying causes. Believe or not, the winner of two MMA World Championship titles was bullied growing up at in St. Isadore, Quebec and took up karate aged seven for self-defence. Now a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, St-Pierre hasn’t forgotten the hardship he had to endure as a child and has been campaigning against bullying ever since.
888 seemed equally delighted to welcome onto their team the MMA superstar who has the record for most consecutive title defenses in the Welterweight division. Commenting on the deal, Senior 888 Vice President Itai Pazner, said:
“The partnership agreement with Georges St-Pierre will strengthen our brand awareness around the globe and introduce 888 to the growing sport of MMA and its fans. It is exciting to have this international sports celebrity on board with us.”
St-Pierre joins a number of other MMA fighters who have also been involved in the poker arena, such as Randy Couture, Chuck Lidell, Forrest Griffin and Mike Swick.
