Superstar Showdown: Isildur1 Loses To Isaac Haxton Again
March 14, 2012 11:03 amBack in December, 2010, Isildur1 joined PokerStars and a few weeks later took on Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton to kick-off the much anticipated SuperStar Showdown.
Despite losing the first challenge to Haxton by $41,701, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has subsequently gone on to beat the next nine opponents he faced, to book a $651,666 profit overall.
However, Isildur1 still felt he had some unfinished business to take care of against Haxton and so a re-match between the top pros got underway on Sunday. Isiludr1 then got off to a 100k start after 700 hands before a massive storm knocked-out the internet connection on Haxton’s Maltese home and called a premature halt to the match.
Picking-up the action where they left off, Tuesday saw the resumption of the 2,500-hand match, with Haxton needing to overcome a huge deficit if he was to have any chance of recreating his 2010 Superstar Showdown victory.
Nevertheless, Isildur1 pressed on to extend his lead to 120k by the halfway point, before Haxton finally struck back. He then proceeded to relentlessly pick off one bluff after another, until eventually hitting a set of eights and calling a river bluff-shove by Isildur to draw even.
Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton’s subsequently pulled ahead by 80k and was still in front by around 23k by the time just 3 hands remained to be played across three tables.
The first table was a pre-flop fold, while table 2 saw Haxton drop just over 20k after hitting a set to Isildur1’s rivered straight. At this point Isildur1 had a slim lead but on the final hand of the match, the Swede called a re-raise to $8.5k only to fold to a flop bet, thus handing his opponent a $5,093 victory overall.
This is now Viktor “Isildur1” Blom’s second defeat in the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown, albeit to the same opponent. However, it will be business as usual as Isildur1 returns to the action and takes on British pro Alex “Kanu7” Millar this Sunday coming at 12pm EDT.
