Superstar Showdown: Isildur1 Beats Kanu7 For $37k
March 19, 2012 12:41 pmThe result of the latest Superstar Showdown between Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Alexander “Kanu7” Millar was yet another victory for the heads-up specialist, this time by $37,687.
From the 11 different opponents he has faced as part of his ongoing challenge, the Swede has lost to just one player, Isaac Haxton, and is currently up roughly $650k.
In his latest encounter, the 21 year-old took on England’s Alexander “Kanu7” Millar, who has won $999,343 at PokerStars and $256,133 at Full Tilt cash tables over the past year and a half. Nevertheless, in their previous cash table encounters at PokerStars virtual felts, Blom is up $160,000 against Millar.
This time around, the pros sat down at the tables with a total of $300k in front of them and proceeded to play 2,500 hands of $100/$200 NLHE.
Within 200 hands, Isildur1 had taken an $80k lead but the by the 500th hand Millar was ahead by $20K, and then $60k by hand 1,400. Unfortunately for Millar, that was as good as it got after hand 1,625 produced the biggest pot of the match, which went Isildur1’s way.
In the $100,900 pot, Isildur1 (Kd-4d) raised pre-flop to $2,600 before calling Millar’s 3-bet (6c-7c). The Brit then lead out for $4k on the Ad-Jh-4c flop, and $11,500 on the 5s turn with nothing more than an open-ended straight draw. Each time Isildur1 called, including after Millar missed on the 9d river and shoved for his remaining $32,350 stack.
“Haha he’s back, nh” a good humoured Millar then quipped.
At this point, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom was now up $59,275 and by hand 2,066 had surged to a $148,275 lead.
To his credit, Millar dug in and would have been mighty relieved to claw back $110,588 of his losses over the next 434 to finish just $37,687 down for the match. This included a $95,650 pot in which Isildur1 (J-9) with a busted draw shoved for $32,825 on the river into the pocket queens of his opponent on a 8-6-2-5-2 board.
Alexander “Kanu7” Millar may have lost, but he put in a fierce performance and treated rail birds to one of the most entertaining Superstar Showdowns yet.
