Isaac Haxton Loses $1 Million Challenge To Isildur1
April 3, 2012 1:06 pmIsaac “philivey2694” Haxton must be waking up with a big hangover this morning, after having lost half a million dollars of his bankroll to Viktor “Isildur1” Blom over just three days of play.
Recently, Isaac Haxton defeated Viktor Blom for the second time in the PokerStars Superstar Showdown to lodge a $46,794 profit overall. The stage was then set for a special $1 Million SuperStar Showdown in which the stakes were raised to $200/$400 and both men had $500k in front of them instead of $150k.
This time around, however, the story was altogether different and after just two four hour sessions, Blom took a $281k lead leaving Haxton $219k behind. As yesterday’s third session got underway the US pro therefore had some serious catching up to do, but instead fell further behind to $100k by the first hour of play.
By the second hour, Haxton had been reduced to one table only and $16k before securing a much needed double up holding K-J to Blom’s pocket queens.
Subsequently, Isaac Haxton managed to stage a comeback to take his stack past the $100k mark once more but with half an hour left to play his stack had diminished to a meagre $25k, when the defining hand was played.
Blom (A-6) min-raised to $800 pre-flop and was called by Haxton (K-8). After the flop fell A-A-2, Haxton check-called Isildur1’s c-bet of $800, and then $2k on the 9 turn before check-calling for his last $6k on the Q river. Just like that the $1 Million SuperStar Showdown was all over and the challenge finished with a quick “gg” from both Haxton and Isildur1, with Haxton not immediately responding to a request for comment.
Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, on the other hand, had this to say: “I just try play my best game…It feels good. It was a tough game. Haxton played good as usual. Maybe he played a bit too passive.”
Isaac Haxton is still the only player to have defeated Isildur1 overall in the SuperStars Showdown, although it would now seem to be a Pyrrhic victory as he is currently down around $450k to the 21 year old Swede.
