Nevada Aims To Boost Tourism From India

In a sign of the growing importance of Indian tourism to Las Vegas, the state of Nevada has opened a representative office in the country of 1.25 billion people. India is currently in the top 10 of countries visiting the home of the USA’s chief gambling resort each year, and the aim of theĀ  office in New Delhi is to promote Indian tourism in Las Vegas, and move India into a top five position.
A total of 63,000 Indian tourists flocked to Nevada in 2014, making the state the third most visited location by Indian tourists in the US, behind New York and San Francisco. Those visiting Nevada are drawn to the various attractions the state offers, including its scenic beauty, American culture draws, such as cowboy traditions, and, of course, gambling. While casino gambling exists in India, it is thus far restricted to just three states, namely Goa, Daman, and Sikkim, and so the opportunity to visit some of Las Vegas’ opulent casinos has also contributed to the 33% year-on-year visitor growth rate currently noted.
Nevertheless, Nevada’s office in India is keen on promoting itself especially with the family market, honeymooners, and even the Indian film industry, and as Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison explains:
“Opening an office in India will provide Nevada with greater opportunities to promote international travel and tourism to our state. We currently enjoy 6.5 percent of the India travel market share here in Nevada. With a new office in New Delhi, I am confident that our increased presence will encourage even more tourists from India to visit the Silver State.”
Around 12 years ago, Nevada successful promoted itself amongst Chinese tourists, and the country is currently one the top five countries visiting the Silver State. In addition to India, Nevada has opened tourism offices in a number of other important international markets, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, the U.K. and South Korea.
