Bingo Winner Devoured Alive By Hungry Pig
August 26, 2011 10:41 amIn one of the most bizarre incidents to take place in the UK in recent times, an 84-year-old grandmother of 11 was eaten alive by a pig whilst walking back home after a night out at her local bingo club.
Muriel Hattersley would spend every Wednesday night at the Nirvana Big Prize bingo hall near Crewe, Cheshire, located just one mile from her home.
Despite her family’s concerns, the plucky grandmother would always insist on taking an evening country stroll back later to get some much needed exercise and fresh air.
However, luck would contrive against the former chemical worker on that fateful night after a pig escaped from a nearby farm the very same day. With her £30 bingo winnings in her purse, Muriel Hattersley crossed the farmer’s field, but then stumbled over a tree root and was knocked out as she fell to the ground.
That was to be her downfall, as unconscious but still alive, she was found by the male pig who then proceeded to make a meal out of her. Eventually, her grisly remains were discovered by horrified farm workers who called the police.
Distraught daughter Janet Wilson, 50, helped identify her mother’s partially devoured remains and later commented:
“Mum insisted on walking home from the bingo. We were worried she’d be mugged but she said she lived on the outskirts of town, countryside really, and she’d be safe. Nobody likes to hear that their mum has been eaten by a pig, let alone eaten alive by a pig. It’s horrible.”
Pigs are omnivores, but are fed mostly soybean meal and corn in confinement. However, they have been known to eat other pigs, or human flesh in the past, even crushing and swallowing the bones.
Commenting on the bizarre tragedy, farmer Kelvin Dixon, 57, explained:
“We have all sorts traipsing over the fields at all hours. I’ll have to have Arthur destroyed now, as he’s got a taste for human flesh. Shame… he’s a good pig.”
