Virginia Man Wins $4.8 Million Slots Fortune At Casino
May 17, 2011 6:18 amA Virginia man has been celebrating his incredible luck after taking down the biggest slots jackpot in Delaware history worth $4,856,978.
Sunday night, Bert Dickerson of Fairfax was playing the multistate progressive game Ca$hola at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino when his fortunes suddenly took a major turn for the better.
Dickerson said he usually visits the Dover Downs Casino every other week while visiting his folks who live in the area.
However, on this occasion rather than just enjoying a few hours spent at the casino before heading back home, Bert Dickerson found his departure time considerably delayed after winning the life changing sum. As he explains:
“I was getting pretty tired, it was late at night and I was ready to go home. I had about $20 left…all of a sudden all the lights went out for the progressive jackpot…my machine lit up for $4.8 million and some change and I thought wow this has got to be wrong.”
Happily for Bert Dickerson there was nothing faulty with the machinery and his wildest dreams were then confirmed after security staff showed up to congratulate the mega-jackpot winner.
Ironically, despite previously being tired and ready to head home, Dickerson then had to wait around six hours until 8 in the morning while the casino processed his incredible windfall. A hardship which he said he was more than happy to endure.
Bert Dickerson has now rejected the option of a 30-year annuity in favour of a lump sum cash payout of $2,927,899, although he has until June 5th to finalise his decision. As to what he intends to do with the money, Bert replied:
“Invest wisely, give back to the community and plan a nice future for myself and my partner.”
In the meantime, Bert Dickerson also became the final winner of the Ca$hola jackpot, which has now reached the end of its tenure. The jackpot has payed out a total of $52 million over its five year run.
