Robin Hood 702 Offers $50k Reward For $1.5m Bellagio Robber
December 22, 2010 7:53 amFollowing the December 14th robbery at the Bellagio of $1.5 million in chips, philanthropist ‘Robin Hood 702’ has offered a $50,000 reward for the apprehension of the bandit.
Robin Hood 702 has been helping worthy causes for several years now, by using his Blackjack skills to win money for needy families who contact him via his site “robinhood702.com”.
However, this time Robin Hood 702 in a departure from his usual modus operandi has decided to offer a bounty as he said he felt outraged by the criminal act which he believes not only victimised the casino but also the whole of Las Vegas.
Explaining his concerns, Robin Hood 702 commented that his brand of charity was reliant on the safety and well being of Las Vegas as a tourist resort and said:
“These are desperate times. People are going to say, ‘Why don’t I take a shot?’.. I’m just trying to find this guy and stop any copycats. If the Bellagio was hit, the Palazzo could be hit, the Venetian, the MGM Grand, it could be every casino. This guy has to be apprehended quickly.”
In the meantime, investigators are waiting to see if any of the high denomination chips stolen from the Bellagio begin to reappear. However, Las Vegas advisor Anthony Curtis has warned that professional gamblers often stash their high-value chips to stay under the IRS radar and commented:
“A lot of the $5,000 chips are all over the place, especially with poker players. There would be some motivation for a poker player to hope this would get resolved.”
This would especially be the case for chip hoarders if the Bellagio were now to change their chips.
Whether the $50,000 reward offered by Robin Hood 702 will help the investigation remains to be seen but MGM Resorts International and Bellagio spokesman, Gordon Absher said he felt confident that the Metro Police would eventually apprehend the suspect.
Adding his own thoughts on the matter, Robin Hood 702 said: “Fifty grand is a lot for someone to have in their pocket. I’m hoping other casinos will kind of add to the bounty and make this an incredible thing.”
