Macau Gambling Magnate Attacked By Gang In Own Casino

Macau Gambling Magnate Attacked By Gang In Own Casino The Greek Mythology Casino owner Mr. Ng Man Sun is recovering in hospital after being attacked in his own restaurant by six men armed with hammers and sticks.
The Greek Mythology Casino is part of the New Century Hotel on Taipa Island, and the 65 year old prominent figure in Macau’s gambling industry was having dinner in its restaurant with an unidentified woman when the couple were attacked. The criminals avoided head injuries and targeted Mr Ng’s arms and legs, which were badly wounded. Fortunately, the   terrified woman was not badly hurt and released from hospital after treatment.
The brazen incident raises the specter of criminal organizations such as the Triads gaining ever more influence on Macau’s gambling industry, which in the late 1990’s was riddled with countless bombings, triad murders and other violent activities. At one stage the situation became so bad that one security official trying to calm down visitors concerned about getting caught up in the violence, famously told them not to worry as the Triads were “professional killers who don’t miss their targets.”
That was around a decade ago when SJM chairman Stanley Ho had a virtual monopoly on Macau’s gambling industry, but since 2004 Las Vegas casino interest have been allowed to enter the market.
The latest attack threatens to undermines attempts by authorities to promote Macau as a friendly, family oriented resort and harks back to July 1997 when the New Century Hotel suffered another attack, that time being sprayed with gunfire from assailants who left several security guards wounded.
So far there have been no explanations as to what lay behind the recent brutal attack of Mr. Ng Man Sun. However, apparently he has been involved in a Macau gambling industry financial disputes, and as one unnamed associate, ventured:
“He has so many opponents and enemies that you don’t know who could be behind this, and I don’t want to guess.”
