Greektown Casino To Get New Signage on Sep 30th
September 19, 2017 1:34 pmThe city of Detroit boasts three commercial casinos, one of which is the Greektown Casino-Hotel that opened for business back in 2000. The venue was subsequently bought by Rock Gaming in 2013, with its owner, Dan Gilbert, since renaming Rock Gaming LLC to Jack Entertainment LLC as part of a $40 million rebranding plan that also includes changing the name of the Greektown Casino Hotel to the Jack Detroit Casino Hotel Greektown.
That time is soon approaching, with the huge sign currently sitting atop of the casino expected to be replaced with the new Jack sign on September 30th. The procedure will be carried out with the assistance of a helicopter, which will hover above the 30-story building as the sign is lowered into place.
According to Gilbert, the move in no way means that his company is trying to distance itself from the historic Greektown district. After all, Greektown holds significant importance for Detroit, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Its name also relates to the Greek immigrants who helped turn the district into a thriving business area, with their contributions honored each in March, which also coincides with Greek Independence Day, which commemorates the beginning of the War of Greek Independence (1821) against the country’s Ottoman conquerors.
As Gilbert explains: “We wanted to have all our gaming assets under one brand, and we thought Jack was kind of fun name that represented the family of companies.”
Commenting upon the development, branding expert Robert Kolt from Michigan State University, said that the casino was starting to have an old and tired image, and that the latest rebranding effort would undoubtedly prove to be a good investment.
In the meantime, the casino has already added several new food options to its catering service, with a number of fast-food restaurants, together with an expanded selection of alcoholic beverages and cocktails to be introduced next spring. Elaborating further, JACK Entertainment CEO Matt Cullen stated:
“Detroit is JACK’s hometown and we want to make a big splash with our new brand and the casino’s dramatically expanded new dining and entertainment offerings. Our entire team is eager to introduce all that’s new to the city and our guests.”
