Finally, $2.4m Slot Jackpot Struck After 20 years!
August 27, 2014 2:26 pmMGM produced fifty Lion’s Share slot machines 20 years ago, and five years later 49 were removed leaving just one still remaining at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There it then stood waiting for the jackpot to be won before officially being retired, a feat which was finally accomplished after Walter and Linda Misco hit the huge $2.4 million jackpot last Friday.
Interestingly, the Miscos have been visiting Las Vegas for more than 25 years and even played on the very same slot machine without success. On Friday they also very nearly missed out on winning the huge jackpot, too, after spotting a line of five people waiting to play the Lion’s Share slot, and opting to go and watch the Criss Angel show, instead. When they finally returned, however, the slot was free and so a few minutes after feeding $100 into the machine, they quickly ran their balance up to $127 when gold finally struck. Talking about the monumental win, Walter Misco, said:
“I had seen a story about the machine online and my wife and I walked by the machine when we arrived. She said, ‘You have to play this machine and win on this machine.’ So I was just following orders from the boss.”
The 66-year-old retiree said he “wasn’t absolutely convinced” he had won the historic jackpot, even after seeing the figures in front of him, but said his daughter, too, was shocked having received the incredible news by phone in the early hours of the morning.
“She was a little unnerved when my wife called because calls at 3 a.m. are usually not good news. I ruined her day because she didn’t go back to sleep,” joked Walter.
However, a few hours without sleep is little price to pay for her parents good fortune and all the benefits it can bring to the whole family. As to what else they might do with the money, Walter replied:
“Like any good American, I’m going to give a good chunk of it to Uncle Sam.”
