$2.7M Poker Jackpot Won at Crown Perth Casino
September 7, 2016 11:18 amA father of two has just won a life-changing $2.7 million jackpot after making a royal flush while playing Texas Holdem Poker at the Crown Perth casino in Australia. He wasn’t the only one shocked by the huge payout, though, with Nigel explaining that even the croupier who had dealt the hand “let off an expletive and just stood there, he was stunned.”
Nigel Williams, 45, had been gambling at a roulette table when he took the fateful decision to try his hand at the casino poker table, instead. During the game, Nigel placed a $10 wager on a jackpot bonus that’s released if he makes a royal flush, and six hands later that’s exactly what happened.
Nigel had a 10d in his hand and after the dealer laid out a Ad-Qd-Jd flop, he was hoping for another diamond in order to make him a flush worth hundreds of dollars. As it turned out, the next card was a king of diamonds, which completed his royal flush, and describing the moment, Nigel explained:
“I didn’t say anything at first. My mind was going, ‘Hang on, am I dreaming? Have I got a diamond? Is it a heart?’ The dealer called over the pit boss and once they said, ‘Right, it’s official’, that’s when I stood up and screamed. I just screamed a big African scream, like a lion.”
Nigel Williams, MD of a golf course management company, emigrated from Zimbabwe to Australia back in 1987, and these days likes to spend a couple of days each week gambling at the Crown Perth. When asked how the massive $2.7 million payout will change his life, he replied:
“I’ve got the greatest job in Australia — so what I will do is semi-retire, I’ll work five days instead of seven, and I’ll put the money in the bank. I’m not going to do anything until March.”
