Later on today, this year’s World Series Of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is due to get underway in the stunning French Riviera city of Cannes where seven braceleted events will take place, as well as 69 other side tournaments and cash games.
Taking place between September 21st and October 4th at the Hôtel Majestic Barrière, the tournaments will vary in buy-in from €1,100 to the €10,450 Main Event starting on September 30th. Past winners of the prestigious Main Event include Annette Obrestad (2007), John Juanda (2008), Barry Shulman (2009), James Bord (2010) and Elio Fox (2011).
In addition, each of the WSOPE bracelet events will provide live streaming via the wsop.com website, albeit without revealing the player’s holecards. That is with the exception of the Main Event, which will display the players’ cards on a 15 minute delay on ESPN3.com and Eurosport.
One side-tournament which will make its debut at the 2012 WSOPE is the €51,000 buy-in ($64,000) no-limit hold’em Majestic Super High Roller event, which will have unlimited rebuys and is likely to attract a similar starting field to the WSOP $1 million Big One for One Drop won by Antonio Esfandiari earlier this year in Las Vegas. Already, several wealthy Asian businessmen have signed-up for the high-roller event, and as WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart explains:
“We truly believe 2012 is the year we accomplish our goal to make WSOPE the richest and most prestigious event on the European calendar.
Most of the top pros in the game are expected to descend on Cannes and participate in the next 14 days of poker heaven. They will be hoping to lay claim to at least one of the following seven 2012 WSOPE braceleted events:
Event 1: €2,700 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em
Event 2: €1,100 No Limit Hold’em
Event 3: €5,300 Pot Limit Omaha
Event 4: €3,250 No Limit Hold’em Shootout
Event 5: €10,450 No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max
Event 6: €1,650 Six-handed Pot Limit Omaha
Event 7: €10,450 No Limit Hold’em Main Event (two day one flights; six-day event)
