Andreas Klatt Wins WSOPE Event #2 for €56,400

Andreas Klatt Wins WSOPE Event #2 for €56,400WSOPE Event #2: €550 Pot Limit Omaha attracted a field of 523 players to the King’s Casino to create a prize pool worth €250,909 ($295,545). The action then took place over two days, at the end of which it was German pro Andreas Klatt who managed to best the field, including compatriot Nico Ehlers heads-up, to claim the winner’s bracelet, and a first place prize of €56,400 ($66,433).
Following a victory which pushes his career earnings to $870,174, Klatt, who earlier this year finished runner-up at the €5,300 PokerStars Championship Main Event in Monte Carlo for €402,786 ($438,660), stated:
“I would say it’s like a dream of every poker player to win a bracelet. These days money is sometimes more important, but a bracelet is still a bracelet. My goal at this year’s WSOPE is to win as much money as possible, but it’s always nice to win a tournament!”
The €550 Pot Limit Omaha event paid 70 money places, and amongst the recognizable pros walking away with a return on their investment was Chris Ferguson in 70th (€800), Roberto Romanello in 64th (€807), Phil Hellmuth Jr in 45th (€940), Pierre Neuville in 36th (€1,221), James Akenhead in 25th (€1,341),and Alexander Lakhov in 20th (€2,378).
After the final table of eight was reached, Nico Ehlers eliminated Vasile Stancu in 8th, before doing likewise to Sergio Fernandez in 5th, and Theodoros Aidonopoulos in 4th. Andreas Klatt then took care of Georgios Zisimopoulos in 3rd to usher in heads-up play between himself and Ehlers for the bracelet.
At this stage the blinds were high with not much separating the two players’ stacks, and before the long the deciding hand was played with both players moving all-in on the river. It was Klatt’s nut straight that won the day, though, in the process securing for him a career first WSOPE bracelet.
Commenting upon his experience at the final table, Klatt explained: “I just focussed on my game. I just tried to play every hand perfectly. There was this turning point with six or seven left and I lost a big pot to Georgios Zisimopoulos, and I lost my mood and thought ‘It’s over; I’m going to lose. But then I won another pot and was like: ‘Maybe I can turn this around.’ That was a couple of key hands there.”
Final Table Results:
1st: Andreas Klatt €56,400
2nd: Nico Ehlers €34,860
3rd: Georgios Zisimopoulos €23,979
4th: Theodoros Aidonopoulos €16,809
5th: Sergio Fernandez €11,985
6th: Krzysztof Magott €8,700
7th: Michal Maryska €6,433
8th: Vasile Stancu €4,847
