Phil Hellmuth Jr Wins 12th WSOP Bracelet
June 11, 2012 11:40 amAfter 5 years in the waiting, Phil Hellmuth Jr has finally beaten his own personal record by winning a 12th career WSOP bracelet.
Hellmuth captured his first gold bracelet back in 1989 after taking down the $10k Main Event for $755,000. The Californian based pro has since added a bevy of bracelets to his collection over a number of hold’em variants including No Limit, Limit and Pot Limit Hold’em. However, the 47 year-old can now add a non-hold’em event to his collection after overcoming a field of 309 players on his way to taking down Event #18: $2,500 Seven Card Razz, and the $182,793 first place prize.
Following his remarkable victory, Phil Hellmuth Jr commented:
“This is the first tournament in my life I have no idea what the prize money is..but it’s all about the bracelet. It’s unbelievable. I’ve been waiting for this since ’07. I’ve been knocking, knocking, knocking on the door.”
At the 2011 WSOP in Las Vegas, Phil Hellmuth cashed five times, including three runner-up finishes for a total payout of $1,591,004. This year, Hellmuth went heads-up against Don Zewin in Event#18, before making the most capital from his WSOP opportunity.
After Zewin acknowledged Hellmuth was the winner in the final hand played with a simple “You got it,” Hellmuth jumped up and down, before thanking the crowd and saying:
“I appreciate everyone for being here. I want you to know that I’m going to take every picture and sign every autograph.”
Congratulations to Phil Hellmuth Jr on a well deserved 12th WSOP bracelet, and on pulling even further ahead of Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, both of whom still have ten a piece.
