JohnnyBax Wins 2nd Career WSOP Bracelet In Vegas
June 7, 2013 11:59 amInfluential poker pro Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy has just won the WSOP $3,000 no-limit hold’em shootout (event#9), after overcoming a field of 477 players over three days on his way to capturing a second career WSOP bracelet, and collecting the $299,486 first place prize.
Cliff Josephy commands great respect in the poker community for his efforts as a training instructor with PokerXFactor, as well as the support he has offered players to help get them started on their poker careers. Josephy also has an enviable record when it comes to tournament success and now boasts $2,423,531 in earnings to go with his 2 WSOP bracelets. However, although his real name is well known, it is online where his screen name “JohnnyBax” has become legendary, with the top ranked online poker pro having earned an impressive $4,120,232 throughout his career.
Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy won his first WSOP bracelet back in 2005 at the $1,500 Seven Card Stud for $192,150, but his latest victory holds special significance for the New York resident, and as he explains: “This is my biggest achievement as a poker player, right here. I always wanted a no-limit hold ’em gold bracelet. It’s my best game. Some people told me the game passed me by, that the young kids are all better. But obviously, they are not all better. We have a few chips up our sleeve.”
By the time the final table had been reached, Josephy faced off against such talented opposition as Steven Silverman, Tim West, David Baker, Alessandro Longobardi, Max Steinberg, Chris Klodnicki and Ryan Hughes. Josephy then proceeded to eliminate Klodnicki in 8th (A-Q versus J-J) Steinberg in 7th (6-6 versus A-J), Longobardi in 5th (10-8 versus A-K) and West in 4th (J-J versus 6-6), to take a 3 to 2 chip advantage against Silverstein into heads-up.
The defining hand was eventually played with Silverstein (K-10) all-in preflop against the A-2 of Josephy, and after the board rolled out 5-Q-J-3-5, Josephy was awarded the gold bracelet.
The top 10 payouts were as follows:
