2017 WSOP Preliminary Schedule Announced
December 21, 2016 12:18 pmThe World Series of Poker has just announced that its 48th annual tournament series will once again be held at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, with the first gold bracelet event getting underway on May 31st and the action continuing all the way through to the WSOP Main Event final table on July 17th.
According to an official statement released by the WSOP, the 2017 WSOP will feature 70 gold bracelet events, one more than last year, although the exact schedule of the 49-day festival has yet to be finalized, and will likely be released sometime in February 2017. Commenting on the news, WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart explained:
“We want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and best wishes for a safe and successful 2017. We are busy trying to finalize the entire 2017 WSOP schedule. We anticipate a similar series to last year with a few new wrinkles, but ensuring a broad array of options to satisfy every potential participant.”
The WSOP flagship tournament, the $10k Main Event, is expected to run from July 8-17, and will include three starting flights. In the meantime, a number of other popular events will be making their return, including the The Millionaire Maker, The Monster Stack, The Little One for ONE DROP, The Seniors Event, and The Ladies Championship.
Also making a return will be the aptly named Colossus, with the $565 buy-in event including two starting flights per day over three consecutive days. This will mark its third iteration, and last year the huge tournament attracted a phenomenal 21,613 players, with the eventual winner Benjamin Keeline walking away with a top prize of $1 million.
Next year, the organization will be be hoping to build further on the success of its 2016 Series, which turned out to be the most successful in its 47-year history, with 107,833 people entering tournaments, and 15,767 entrants coming away with prize money after the payout threshold was raised to 15 percent.
