2016 WSOP: John Hennigan Wins $10k 2-7 Triple Draw
June 30, 2016 1:17 pmJohn Hennigan has just picked up a 4th career gold bracelet after taking down Event #47: $10k 2-7 Triple Draw Championship for $320,103. Incredibly, the Philadelphia pro said that he only entered the tournament to give himself a break from all the high-stakes cash action he has been enjoying in Vegas, and as the 45 year-old later explained:
“Those games are so big, it’s hard to concentrate on tournaments. I was just really out of gas in the cash games, so I just came over here to kill time.”
Furthermore, the 125 player field was stacked with some of the game’s top talent, with those notable pros managing to see a return on their $10k buy-ins including Erik Sagstrom in 19th ($15,182), Stephen Chidwick in 14th ($15,182), Daniel Negreanu in 12th ($20,783), and Dan Shak in 11th ($20,783).
Having made it through to the final table, Hennigan would then eventually progress all the way through to heads-up play where he ultimately defeated Belgium 3-times bracelet winner Michael Gathy to claim the title. Later expressing his delight on adding another bracelet to his impressive tally, Hennigan said:
“It never gets old. The reason we play a lot of these tournaments is because it’s such a great thrill when you get deep in them. It’s great to compete, and there’s really nothing like that thrill of being at the final table.”
Hennigan now boasts $6,777,956 in live career earnings, but don’t expect him to be chasing too many more bracelets at WSOP 2016, though, as he says the cash game action still remains his main priority, stating:
“I’ve got four, which is a great accomplishment, and I’m proud of it. But, those guys, they have 10, 12, 14, and I don’t think I’m going to be catching that any time soon.”
Final Table Results:
1: John Hennigan $320,103
2: Michael Gathy $197,838
3: JC Tran $142,547
4: Chris Klodnicki $102,910
5: Viacheslav Zhukov $74,439
6: Abe Mosseri $53,951
