UK Poker Pro Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliott To Make A Movie
March 18, 2010 1:10 pmUK Poker Pro Dave “The Devilfish” Ulliott has been busy lately and in addition to working on his autobiography expected out later on in the year, he has announced that plans are now in motion to transfer his life story to the big screen.
While giving a video interview on the ‘What The Bookies Say’ blog, Dave Ulliott revealed that he was in talks with a Swedish and an English company who were interested in making the movie about his colourful life.
When invited to comment on the type of movie it would be, Ulliott replied: “Its going to be a great movie with lots of funny stories in it. A bit like the Guy Ritchie stuff. If you can imagine Snatch but put the Devilfish in it, it will be a bit like that.”
At this point it is not clear who will be playing the poker legend, but Ulliott said he would consider playing himself in his latter years. One thing that is clear, however, is that there will be no lack of material for the director to include in the movie.
Afterall, as Des Wilson describes in his book ‘Swimming With the Devilfish,’ Dave Ulliott was “…a former safe-cracker who spent his 21st birthday in prison, became a pawnbroker in Hull, and then conquered the poker world, winning the first Late-Night Poker final and a World Series gold bracelet in Las Vegas…”
As well as the poker skills which have earned him in excess of $5,600,000 from live tournament cashes, Ulliott is also well known for his poor and deprived origins, having a whole catalogue of colourful stories from his past and of course his enormous ego.
When asked to choose a line from one of his favourite movies, Dave “The Devilfish” Ulliott relpied: “Ah…Edward G Robinson in the Cincinnati Kid… “You’re good, kid, but as long as I’m around, you’re only second best.”
