Daniel Negreanu To Appear In New TV Show Four Kings
June 19, 2015 5:55 amOutside of his poker playing career, not a year seems to go by without Canadian superstar Daniel Negreanu appearing in some TV show or video, from dating show “Millionaire Matchmaker” to Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas” music video, to several film roles, in which he usually plays himself. Consequently, following on from such acting credits as The Grand (2007), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and Detention (2013), it has now been announced that the Poker Hall of Famer will soon star in an upcoming TV show about four professionals operating in the gambling industry entitled “Four Kings”. As an IMDB plot summary explains:
“Three of them are world class poker players and the fourth is a bookie who makes the line on absolutely everything. Together they travel the world in search of the highest stakes games with the most colorful of characters. With a loyalty and integrity level that is rarely seen, these four best friends stick together and watch each other’s backs through everything that comes their way in their search for becoming world champions.
While actors such as Kevin Pollak, Robert Iler, and Willie Garson will be taking center stage, Negreanu is expected to appear in at least one episode of the show, with the 6-times WSOP bracelet winner having just recently returned from Los Angeles after shooting began of Four Kings. Naturally, Negreanu also had a lot of positive things to say about the show, too, describing it as where ‘Swingers’ and ‘Entourage’ meets the poker playing and gambling world. The 40 year-old pro further praised the show for being mainstream and having the potential to appeal to a wider audience, stating:
“If it’s just a show that poker players are gonna watch, then it’s not going to last. But this is something I think everyday people who don’t play poker may watch and actually become more intrigued by the game.”
Daniel Negreanu has perhaps done more than any other player to help promote poker and bring the game to an audience beyond its stalwart fans. Lending further support to the upcoming show, Negreanu says he believes ‘Four Kings’ has the potential to bring back some of the coolness and mystique once associated with the game, “kinda like a reboot of Rounders, where Rounders really helped put poker on the map.”
