November 30, 2015 12:47 pmYuri Martins has won the 2015 Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Grand Final, after beating a field of 426 players over four days to claim the title, and collect its R$652,509 ($170,000) first place prize. Following his victory, the Brazilian pro now boasts $522,095 in live career earnings to go with the $5,012,333 he has won playing online under the screen name “theNERDguy”.
Following three starting Day 1’s, the Grand Final reached its conclusion on Day 4. Amongst the notable names seeing a return on their R$10,000 buy-ins, but falling short of a final table appearance, was Alex Manzano in 26th (R$27,450), Patricio Rojas in 21st (R$31,210), Ariel Celestino in 20th (R$34,970), and Caio Hey in 15th (R$43,240).
By the end of Day 3, just eight players remained, who then returned to the action the following day to decide an ultimate winner. As the final table got underway, Alfonso Henrique was the chip leader. He then managed to extend his lead to half the chips in play while all the finalists still remained, eventually reaching heads-up play, albeit it at a 2-to-1 chip disadvantage against fellow Brazilian Yuri Martins. The duo subsequently decided to split the prize money evenly, but leave R$118,638 for the champion.
Following a brief heads-up, the last hand of the tournament was played after Henrique shoved preflop holding K-9, only to be called by his opponent with K-Q. The 5-Q-9-7-K board which ensued then sealed the deal, securing Yuri Martins the LAPT Grand Final title, while Afonso Henrique had to settle for a runner-up finish worth R$533,871.
