WPT Bratislava 2011 Won By Roberto Romanello

Roberto Romanello has just won the WPT Bratislava, after overcoming a field of 210 players over five days to take down the prestigious WPT title, as well as collect the  €140,685 ($200,000) first place prize.
Romanello has been on a bit of a tear of late and recently won the inaugural EPT Prague Main Event in December for $918,089. A few months on and ‘The Welsh Wizard’ has now added a WPT to his growing poker resume while escalating his live tournament earnings to around the $2 million mark.
After the two Day 1 flights were completed at the €2,500 WPT tournament in Slovakia, 134 players made it through to Day 2 with 31 players then returning to battle it out on Day 3. Eventually just 9 players remained, who then returned on Day 4 to take their places at the final table.
As the final table got underway, Roberto Romanello was way out in front with 1.803m in chips, followed by Jesper Hoog with 1.042m and Mayu Roca on 899k. Also a competing for a share of the €488,935 prize-pool was Alexander Jager (594k), Bodo Sbrzesny (594k), Christopher Williamsson (564k), Frank Dollinger (549k), Lubomir Kudlicka (406k), and a short-stacked Marek Tatar with 105k in chips.
As the final table was whittled down, Romanello did a good job of maintaining his lead and finally scored his first elimination after being dealt pocket queens and sending Chris Williamson to the rail in 6th (€21,000) holding A-K.
Three-handed, Romanello defeated A-K once again, this time with pocket fours to dispatch Alexander Jager in 3rd (€42,000) and so go heads-up against the Columbian Mayu Roca.
After a fiercely contested heads-up battle, the decisive hand was eventually played when both players pushed their chips in pre-flop with Romanello holding pocket fives to his opponent’s A-K. However, with the board running out J-6-8-3-Q Mayu Roca had to settle for a runner-up finish worth €71,000, while Roberto Romanello was crowned the 2011 WPT Bratislava Champion.
