William Vogel has won the DeepStacks Poker Tour Western New York Poker Championship, after overcoming a field of 217 players over three days to lift the trophy, and collect the $71,827 first place prize.
Day 1 of the $1,500 Main Event at the Seneca Niagra Casino and Hotel, was actually William Vogel’s birthday but Day 2 really saw his chances sky-rocket after eliminating Nachman Berlin (J-10) who shoved his hand into the eventual winner’s A-K.
William Vogel then became the tournament’s chip leader, alongside Lou Procopio, and by the time the final table was set, the two players had more than half the chips in play.
Starting out Day 3 with blinds at 10k/20k, the final table looked as follows:
William Vogel (2.097m)
Lou Procopio (1.955m)
Tom Krol (577k)
Nicholas Goetz (437k)
Michael Wachowski (233k)
Steve Przybyl (179k)
First out was Steve Przybyl (A-J), who re-raised Procopio (Qd-4d) all-in for his remaining 173,000 stack. The queen-high board then consigned Przybyl to a 6th place finish worth $13,359.
William Vogel with Q-9, subsequently committed Tom Krol (J-3) on a J-10-7 flop, only for a K to fall on the turn, thus completing Vogel’s straight, while eliminating Kroll in 5th for $17,802.
Vogel (Q-9) then picked off Michael Wachowski’s all-in bluff (K-7) on a 4-2-Q-2 board, to dispatch him in 4th ($22,245), followed by Nick Goetz, who was eliminated in 3rd ($31,161) after shoving Q-10 pre-flop into Vogel’s A-10.
Despite being equal in stacks as heads-up play began, Vogel subsequently won two big pots to take a 7 to 1 chip lead. The final hand was then played after Procopio (Q-J) three-bet shoved into Vogel’s Kh-4h. With neither player hitting the board, Lou Procopio finished the runner-up for $43,928, while William Vogel was crowned the inaugural DeepStacks Poker Tour Champion.
