Threes A Charm For WSOPC St. Louis Winner Kyle "da_kyky"Cartwright
April 13, 2011 8:15 amKyle Cartwright has won the WSOPC St. Louis Main Event, after overcoming a field of 449 players over three days to take down the title, and collect the $142,290 first place prize.
The $1,600 buy-in tournament was held Sunday at Harrah’s St. Louis, with a whole slew of pros turning out for the event including T.J Cloutier, Greg Raymer, Dennis Phillips and Dwyte Pilgrim.
However, by the time the final table of nine got underway yesterday, it was Kyle “da_kyky” Cartwright who was firmly out in front on a 2.875 million stack, with second placed Steve Goff way behind on 1.27 million.
Kyle Cartwright is no stranger to WSOPC success and already this year has won two WSOPC Harrah’s Tunica events for $25,678 and $31,111. Now with over a third of the chips in play, Cartwright was hoping to notch up yet another WSOPC victory and make it threes a charm.
The first finalist to fall to Cartwright was Steve Goff in 8th ($16,842), who raised his pocket twos from the button only to run into Cartwright’s A-K. After being re-raised Goff seemed determined to get his whole 984,000 stack into the pot and then soon foundered on a 10-Q-7-5-K board.
Next, Chris Viox collected $27,533 in 6th after his A-Q shove failed to improve to Cartwright’s pocket nines. Then finally, with just three players remaining Ron Segni found himself out in 3rd ($64,249) holding As-10s to Cartwright’s A-K making way for the heads-up phase of the competition.
Kyle Cartwright held an almost 5 to 1 chip advantage over Asheesh Boyapati as the heads-up battle commenced and just five hands later it was all over. In a badly timed bluff, Boyapati with 8-5 re-raised Cartwright all-in, who snap called with K-Q to take down the tournament.
Asheesh Boyapati then collected $87,927 for his runner -up finish while Cartwright was crowned the WSOPC St. Louis champion and now brings his total live tournament earnings to around the $200,000 mark.
