Stephen Hendry Riding High at 2017 PokerStars Festival London
January 27, 2017 3:23 pmThe inaugural PokerStars London Festival is proving a huge success at the Hippodrome Casino, with its £990 Main Event attracting 944 players, including a legend from the world of snooker, Stephen Hendry. Now into its third day, the 7-times World Snooker champion’s hopes are still very much alive, with Hendry hoping to at least make it into one of the tournament’s 183 money places worth a minimum of £1,370.
Furthermore, BetStars is currently offering odds of 150/1 for Hendry to win the tournament outright, although he certainly has his work cut out. After all, amongst the legion of notable pros still in contention are such players as Simon Deadman, Matt Perrins, Nik Persaud, James Mitchell, and William Kassouf, to name but a few.
In any case, Stephen Hendry has already won an event at the PokerStars Festival London, with a PokerStars Live tweet proclaiming:
“Master of all felts.. Snooker star @SHendry775 sinks the opposition to take down #PSFLondon Media Event! Congrats!”
PSF £2,200 High Roller
Meanwhile, PokerStars Festival London £2,200 High Roller has drawn to a close, with Joe Johnson lifting the title for a £59,912 payday. The tournament took three days to complete, and the 23 year-old UK player eventually managed to emerge atop of its 178 strong field after taking a 2-to-1 chip lead against Enzo Del Piero into the heads-up phase of the competition. The final hand then saw Johnson (A-J) and Del Piero (A-9) all-in pre-flop, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The High Roller featured a prize pool of £345,320, with a number of notable pros participating, including Brazil’s Felipe Ramos, Italy’s Luca Pagano, and Spain’s Adrian Mateos. The UK’s Liv Boeree, however, managed to outdo her fellow pros and book a 10th place finish for £6,280.
