Spain's Sergio Aido Wins UKIPT Galaway High Roller
August 9, 2013 11:46 amSergio Aido has won the UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) Galaway High Roller event, after besting a field of 36 players over two days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the €24,450 ($32,712) first place prize.
Incredibly, the Spanish pro only cashed in at his first live tournament last year but has already tasted victory at the €1,500 WPT National Series Barcelona for €88,500 ($115,240), as well as the £700 EPT/UKIPT London for £144,555 ($217,530). With his latest win in Ireland, Sergio Aido now boasts $489,805 in live earnings to go with the $957,285 he has won online playing under the screen name ‘Zcedrick’.
The €2,200 High Roller event attracted a small but talented field of 36, which was reduced to just a final table of six by the end of Day 1. The first player to then be eliminated was a short-stacked Niall Farrell, who exited in 6th (€4,190) after his pocket tens ran into the queens of Kyle Maguire.
Next, Sergio Aido (Q-Q) did likewise to Jan Przysucha (K-10) in 5th (€4,890), while Chris Day’s pocket nines foundered against Kyle Maguire’s pocket tens to hit the rail in 4th (€6,980).
Three-handed play would subsequently last several hours before Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Dermot Blain (A-K) was eliminated by Kyle Maguire (2-2) in 3rd (€11,870) to herald in the heads-up phase of the competition. However, the final battle was a short affair and Sergio Aido managed to reduce Maguire to a short stack before eventually dispatching him holding 2-2 to his opponent’s K-6.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1 Sergio Aido €24,450
2 Kyle Maguire €17,460
3 Dermot Blain €11,870
4 Chris Day €6,980
5 Jan Przysucha €4,890
6 Niall Farrell €4,190
