Shawn Busse Wins 2017 CPPT Ocean's 11 San Diego for $49k
April 25, 2017 1:02 pmShawn Busse has won the $250 buy-in Card Player Poker Tour Ocean’s 11 San Diego Classic, after overcoming a field of 920 players on his way to lifting the title, and collecting the tournament’s $48,910 first place prize.
Furthermore, Shawn Busse took down the largest CPPT main event yet seen in its three-year run at the Southern California casino, with the second largest in April 2016 when Robert DeAgazio beat 778 players to win $23,813, and the third largest in January 2017 when Barry Knowlton outlasted 582 competitors to take home $17,157.
As a result of his latest victory, Busse now boasts $1,261,701 in live earnings, with his $48,910 prize representing the fifth largest of his professional career. Busse’s biggest winning year of $648,697, however, came in 2010 after he took down WSOP $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event for a gold bracelet, and an impressive $485,791 payday.
The $250 CPPT Main Event featured a prize pool of $238,100, with 116 players subsequently seeing a return on their money, including last woman standing Ebony Kenney in 12th, and WSOP bracelet winner Gavin Griffin in 11th ($3,360). After the final table of nine got underway, start of the day chip leader Andrew Wisdom eventually bowed out in 4th place for $14,525, and after Steven Silverstein did likewise in 3rd ($19,220), it was left to Shawn Busse and Britton Scheibe to battle it out for the title.
Scheibe had just two tournament cashes before this competition, including a cash at the 2015 WSOP $565 No Limit Hold’em The Colossus for $4,474, and after being defeated heads-up by Busse now increases his tournament winnings to $32,120.
