Septuagenarian Wins Heartland Poker Tour Black Hawk For $230,582
February 21, 2014 12:07 pm73-Year-Old Retiree Doug Milner has won the 2014 Heartland Poker Tour Black Hawk, after besting a field of 731 players over five days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the $230,582 first place prize.
Following his remarkable win at the Golden Gates Casino & Poker Parlour, Black Hawk in Colorado, the septuagenarian player from Salt Lake City, Utah, said: “$230,000 will change my lifestyle. I am comfortable retired but not overly retired.”
The $1,650 buy-in Main Event created a huge prize pool worth $1,048,110, and amongst the notables cashing in at the tournament was Greg Raymer in 71st ($3,144), and Dan O’Brien in 44th ($4,507). After the final table of nine was reached, Dan Heimiller then became the last high profile player to exit in 8th ($25,679) when his A-Q turned straight fell to Colin York’s rivered full house.
Colin York (A-x) then proceeded to eliminate Keith Love (10-10) in 7th for $30,710, before scoring a double elimination over Adam Hudson in 6th ($36,684) and Steven Levy in 5th ($47,899). York (7-7) subsequently dispatched Ryan White (A-5) to the rail in 3rd ($92,806) to go heads-up against Doug Milner for the title.
The final heads-up match of 111 hands then proved to be the longest in HPT history. Eventually, however, Milner (Ad-5s) and York (Js-10c) got it all-in on a As-Kc-2c-3c board, and after the river produced a Qs, York was reduced to just one big blind. The very next hand he was eliminated holding A-7 to his opponent’s A-10 and Colin York was subsequently consigned to a runner-up finish worth $142,857, while Doug Milner was crowned the 2014 Heartland Poker Tour Black Hawk champion.
