Rick Trigg Wins GUKPT Blackpool Main Event For £53,000

Rick Trigg Wins GUKPT Blackpool Main Event For £53,000Rick Trigg has just won the 2013 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Blackpool Main Event, after besting a field of 226 players over three days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the £53,000 first place prize.
On the last day of the £1,070 main event, just sixteen players returned to the arena and ninety minutes later the final table of nine had been reached. As the final table got underway, Caicai Huang was the big stack on a 1.38m stack, followed by John Haigh on 705k, with Richard Trigg a way behind in 5th spot on a 425k stack.
Richard Trigg (10-10) then proceeded to eliminate Dan Pope (A-J) in 9th (£4,600) on an 8-A-6-10-3 board, before being dealt J-7 and doing likewise to a short-stacked Adam Forsyth (A-5) in 8th (£6,200).
By this stage, Trigg had now become the chip leader and the Sheffield pro added further to his stack when his A-6 hit an A on the turn to eliminate Kyle Hendry (9-9) in 5th for £12,400.
Following the exit of last woman standing Caicai Huang in 4th (£16,400), Trigg (A-10) then proceeded to dispatch John Miller (K-2) to the rail in 3rd (£27,600) to go heads-up against John Haigh. As the heads-up phase of the competition got underway, Haigh actually held a slight 2.4 million to 2.1 million chip advantage over Trigg, but the duo then decided to chop the prize pool evenly before battling for the title.
One hour later and the defining hand was subsequently played after Trigg was dealt 4-2 to his opponent’s 9-7. Trigg then check-raised Haigh’s continuation bet on a 7-3-6 flop, and on the turn called Haigh’s bet after an A fell. The river was a nine, which gave Trigg two pair and incentive enough to call his opponent’s all-in move, and with that Haigh finished the runner-up, while Trigg was crowned the GUKPT Blackpool Main Event champion.
