Quan Zhou Wins PSC Single-Day High Roller for $470k
April 5, 2017 11:35 amThe PokerStars Championship Macau is currently underway in the City of Dreams, with its 11-day packed tournament schedule running until April 9. Already, there has been a number of high-profile winners of its events, including US pro Steve O’Dwyer, but its latest victor represent home-spun talent in the guise of local pro Quan Zhou.
On April 4th, Zhou was one of 50 players to enter the HK$206,000 (US$26,514) Single-Day High Roller, with 12 subsequent rebuys eventually swelling the prize pool to HK$12,152,000 ($1,563,622). At the end of the day’s action, Zhou would then best his competitors, including Nick Petrangelo heads-up, to claim the title, and its first place prize of HK$3,645,000 ($469,090).
The PSC Single-Day High Roller attracted some of the game’s finest talent, and amongst those falling short of one of its eight paid money spots was Steve O’Dwyer, Fedor Holz, Mustapha Kanit, Dario Sammartino, and Isaac Haxton.
Quan Zhou subsequently entered the final table in pole position, and soon added further to his stack after calling and eliminating Mikita Badziakouski in 8th, after the Belarusian shoved his short stack preflop with A-6, but came off second best against Zhou’s Q-J.
Jack Salter then took care of David Peters in 6th, and Zuo Wang in 5th, before being reduced to 15bb and moving all-in preflop with 10-7. Zhou made the call with pocket nines, and after Salter was eliminated in 3rd, heads-up got underway between Zhou and WSOP bracelet winner Nick Petrangelo for the title.
One hand is all it would then take before Zhou sent his final opponent to the rail having made a straight, after which the Chinese rail erupted in celebration. Following the biggest score of his career, Quan Zhou now boosts his live tournament earnings to $1,404,477.
