Online Pro Elio 'smokrokbyflock' Fox Wins Bellagio Cup VII
July 22, 2011 11:51 amElio Fox has won the Bellagio Cup VII in Las Vegas, after overcoming a field of 224 players over four days to lift the title, and collect the $669,692 first place prize.
Apparently the young New Yorker has cashed in just three live events since 2010, including a 15th place finish at the NAPT Main Event for $23,000, and a 1st place finish at the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza III for $87,192. With his latest win Elio Fox has now taken his live career earnings to an impressive $779,884.
However, it is online where the former internet pro previously excelled with $2,538,930 in winnings, including $1,426,147 on PokerStars, $776,523 on Full Tilt and $336,260 on Absolute Poker.
After Black Friday which saw all online poker action stopped in the US, more and more online pros are having to ply their trade in the live arena. It may be a lot less convenient for most players but Elio Fox has now shown he is adept at the game of poker, no matter what the requirements, while smashing his previous biggest score of $105,780.
On his way to victory in the $10k buy-in event at The Bellagio Hotel Casino, Fox had to overcome an incredibly tough field packed with pros.
Those players cashing along the way included Isaac Haxton in 26th ($15,031), David Benyamine in 25th ($15,031), Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier in 23rd ($15,031), Vitaly Lunkin in 18th ($17,178), Tom Marchese in 15th ($21,473), Nick Schulman in 13th ($21,473), David Williams in 11th ($25,768) and Brandon Cantu in 9th ($34,357).
The final table was equally as tough with players such as William Thorson, Ted Forrest and Bryn Kenney standing in the way between Fox and his ultimate victory.
Eventually, Fox went heads-up against another accomplished pro Hafiz Khan and just 20 hands later it was all over with Fox holding A-9 to his opponent’s J-10. Hafiz Khan then picked-up $379,460 for his deep run in the tournament, whilst $669,692 and a $25k buy-in to next year’s WPT Championship went to deserved winner Elio Fox.
