Nguyen Wins Big At Atlantic City's Borgata Casino

Nguyen Wins Big At Atlantic City's Borgata CasinoJohnson Nguyen has won the 2013 Borgata Poker Open, after besting a field of 1,056 players over three days on his way to taking down the title, and collecting the $111,360 first place prize.
The $560 buy-in tournament was held at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, and attracted a huge field to create a prize pool worth $528,000. By the time the final table of ten had been reached Andrew Jeffrey was ahead as the chip leader (6.9m), followed by Johnson Nguyen (4.5m), and Frank Bonacci way behind in 6th spot on a 2.5m stack.
Johnson Nguyen then proceeded to eliminate Matt Maccaroni in 7th ($17,969) to propel himself into a chip lead, before doing likewise to Tony Sinishtaj in 5th ($27,839), having hit two pair on the turn against his opponent’s top pair top kicker.
Continuing his assault on the final table, Johnson Nguyen (4-4) called Joe Grodowski’s pre-flop all-in shove (A-A), only for a 4 to appear on the flop and send Grodowski from the tournament in 4th for a $33,913 payday.
Soon after, Andrew Jeffrey was dealt pocket kings and dispatched Frank Bonacci (A-6) to the rail in 3rd ($40,493), thus setting up the heads-up battle between Andrew Jeffrey and Johnson Nguyen.
As the heads-up battle commenced, Jeffrey held an 18.5m to 13m chip advantage over his opponent but the turning point came when Nguyen (6-4) shoved all-in on a 7-5-2 board, only to be called by Jeffrey with pocket kings. After an eight materialized on the river to double-up Nguyen, Jeffrey was left crippled and within a few hands found himself consigned to a runner-up finish worth $66,914. Commenting on the pivotal hand,  Nguyen later said; “if I’m going to see the flop and I hit a draw, I’m going to go with it. I felt like it was going to come because I’ve been sucking out all night.”
