Martin Kozlov Wins 2014 Sydney Poker ChampionshipAfter four days of action, the 2014 Sydney Poker Championship drew to a close on Monday and emerging top of the 235 player field was
noted Australian poker pro Martin Kozlov. With his latest victory worth $171,080, Kozlov now boasts $685,655 in live tournament winnings to go with the $1,213,963 he has won online playing under the screen name “Tiny_molester.”
The $3,000 Sydney Champs Main Event attracted a good-sized field to create a prize pool worth $658,000 with the top 24 finishers assured a cash payout. The two Day 1 flights subsequently saw 132 players make it through to a communal Day 2, but just 19 of them would survive through to a final Day 3. Counted amongst their ranks was the likes of such players as Alex Lee, Leo Boxell, Jarred Graham and Daniel Neilson.
By the time the final table of nine had been reached, Martin Kozlov was the chip leader, with Graham, Neilson, and 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event finalist Sam Capra still in contention. Martin Kozlov then proceeded to dominate the action, although he subsequently faced fierce resistance three-handed against Sam Capra and Bernard Beh.
Eventually, Kozlov managed to dispatch Capra to the rail in 3rd place ($61,194) to take a massive 6 to 1 chip lead against Beh into heads-ups play. Following a brief battle the defining hand was played after Kozlov move all-in pre-flop with 7s-7d only to be called by his opponent holding Ac-10d. The dealer then put out a 5c-8s-Qs-Js-3s board to consign Bernard Beh to a runner-up finish worth $108,570, while Kozlov was crowned the Sydney Poker Champs Main Event winner.
