Maria Lampropulos Triumphs at DTD Main Event for £1M
April 24, 2017 8:54 amMaria Lampropulos has won the £5,300 partypoker Millions Live Main Event, after defeating a field of more than 8,500 players, including the UK’s Jacob Mulhern heads-up, to claim the title, and its first place prize of £1 million ($1,255,004). Following a victory which pushes her live earnings to $1,606,426, Lampropulos commented:
“It really feels like a magic moment I’m in right now. I’m a little tired after such a difficult final table, but tomorrow I’ll realize what I did.. I trusted in my game, I just thought ‘let’s play.’”
The Main Event was held at the Dusk Till Dawn casino in Nottingham, and featured a prize pool worth £6,017,395 ($7,551,857). By the time the final table of eight was reached, there were still two women left in contention, as well as England’s second biggest live tournament earner Stephen Chidwick.
Lampropulos (K-K) then proceeded to oust a short-stacked Neel Murthy from the competition in 8th, and after Katie Swift followed suit in 7th, it was the turn of Stephen Chidwick to exit in 6th, when his A-Q fell to the K-K of Mateusz Rypulak. A little while later, Lampropulos then took care of Rypulak in 4th, and Jeremy Pantin in 3rd to go heads-up against Jacob Mulhern for the title.
At this stage, both players were fairly even in chips, and following an exciting battle, the tournament was eventually settled after the pocket kings of Lampropulos beat Mulhern’s A-Q to take the title. Nevertheless, Jacob Mulhern was delighted with his performance, which earned him £650,000 plus another £100,000 for being the last player with a Golden Chip standing. Mulhern only qualified for the £5,300 tournament via a $22 online satellite, and as he commented later:
“My life has changed. It’s a massive amount of money for anybody to win, but for a lad like me of 24, it’s huge! I’m not disappointed at all, I thought I gave a really good account of myself.”
