Julian Sacks Triumphs at 2016 WSOPC Foxwoods
August 31, 2016 1:58 pmJulian Sacks has won the 2016 WSOPC Foxwoods Main Event, after overcoming a field of 460 players over four days on his way to capturing a gold ring, and a first place prize worth $148,350. Following a victory which now pushes his career earnings to $274,596, the New Jersey resident commented:
“Here at Foxwoods, I’ve had the chip lead before, and blown it. And I was putting a lot of pressure on myself not to blow it this time.”
The $1,675 Main Event was held at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, and featured a prize pool worth $690,000. Amongst the notable players then seeing a return on their buy-ins was Je Wook Oh in 51st ($2,622), Tim Reilly in 23rd ($5,382), Jose Montes in 22nd ($5,382), and defending champion Sam Taylor in 19th ($6,348).
After the final table got started, Julian Sacks almost found himself on the rail after jamming preflop with 8-8, only to be called by Muhammad Abdel-Rahim with J-J. An 8 on the turn then kept his tournament hopes alive, and soon after Sacks doubled up through Abdel-Rahim once more to take the chip lead.
Following a series of further encounters, Sacks eventually eliminated Abdel-Rahim in 5th, before doing likewsie to Jeremy Meacham in 3rd to usher in the final battle against Travis Stams for the WSOPC title.
At this stage, Sacks held a 2-1 chip lead over his remaining opponent, and before long the deciding hand was played with both Sacks (Kc-6s) and Stams (Js-9d) all-in on a Kd-9h-8d flop. Another K on the turn then sealed the deal, and so Travis Stams collected $91,770 for his runner-up finish, while Sacks was crowned the champion.
“Once it got down to four-handed, at times it felt like I was winning every hand. Then I really felt like it was my tournament to lose,” commented Sacks.
