Jean-Pascal Savard Wins Record-Breaking Canadian Main EventThe partypoker sponsored Million North America was held at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal, Canada, with the tournament series culminating in its CA$5300 (US$4,000) Main Event. The flagship competition proved a popular affair, too, with the prize pool of CA$5,709,750 setting a record in the history of Canadian live poker.
The Main Event attracted a total of 1,168 players, and after five days of action it was Quebec pro Jean-Pascal Savard who would eventually walk away with the title, as well as a first place prize worth C$956,050 ($696,169). The victory pushes his live earnings up to $1,566,896, and represents his biggest score to date, with his previous largest win recorded in 2015 after finishing the PCA $25k NLHE High Roller 8 Handed in 4th place for a $508,080 payday.
As you might expect, the partypoker Million North America saw a number of notable players turn out for its main event, hoping to cash in at one of its 119 money spots. Amongst those managing to do so was Ryan Riess (119th), Mike Mcdonald (109th), Cate Hall (63rd), Anthony Zinno (54th), Sam Trickett (50th), Carlos Mortensen (38th), Sam Greenwood (27th), and Scott Montgomery (13th).
The last table also featured some big names, such as Matthew Waxman (7th), Niall Farrell (6th), Ari Engel (5th), but after 9.5 hours of play it was Jonathan Bussieres who would ultimately face-off against Jean-Pascal Savard for the title. At this stage, Savard enjoyed a 2-to-1 chip lead, and 30 minutes later the tournament was decided after Bussieres shoved preflop holding queen-jack into the ace-jack of Savard. The board subsequently ran out 7-3-3-9-K to consign Jonathan Bussieres to a runner-up finish worth CA$693,950 (US$505,315), while Jean-Pascal Savard was crowned the champion.
