James Calderaro Wins 2014 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open

James Calderaro Wins 2014 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker OpenJames Calderaro has triumphed at the 2014 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event, after overcoming a field of 415 players over four days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the $271,103 top prize.
The Florida pros past scores include finishing 13th at the 2009 WSOP Main Event for $633,022, and in 2012 finishing runner-up at the $5k WPT Jacksonville for $236,560. With his latest victory at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino in Hollywood, Florida, Calderaro now takes his live tournament winings to $1,804,736.
The $3,500 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open attracted a talented field of pros and amongst those cashing in at the event was such notables as Matt Waxman in 13th ($16,185), Ryan D’Angelo in 12th ($19,827), Mukul Pahuja in 8th ($36,147), and Justin Zaki in 7th ($45,318).
After the final table of six got underway, a short-stacked Evan Dollinger was ousted from the competition in 6th ($54,355) when his pocket tens were cracked by Dimas Martinez’s pocket sevens.
One hour later Shannon Shorr (2-2) did likewise to Tim Kegel (A-K) in 5th ($67,842), while A-K also proved the downfall of Dimas Martinez, who was eliminated in 4th ($90,366) by James Calderaro (10-10).
Keven Stammen then matched up his A-K against Calderaro’s A-9, and once again big slick was bested, this time by a 9 on the river, to
bounce Stammen out in 3rd ($122,197), and set up the heads-up phase of the competition.
As the final battle commenced, Shannon Shorr held a 6,715,000 to 5,750,000 chip lead over Calderaro, but after a lengthy heads-up lasting 209 hands, Calderaro had taken the lead when he went all-in holding 9d-8d. Shorr then made the call with Ad-Jh, and after the board rolled out 5c-5s-3d-Kd-6d, Shannon Shorr was consigned to a runner-up finish worth $190,039, while James Calderaro was crowned the 2014 WPT Lucky Heartschampion.
