Ireland's Kevin Killeen Triumphs At 2014 UKIPT Dublin
March 4, 2014 5:21 pmIreland’s Kevin Killeen has triumphed at the 2014 UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) Dublin Main Event, after overcoming a huge field of 682 players over four days on his way to lifting the title, and collecting the €87,700 ($120,515) first place prize.
The €770 buy-in Main Event was held at the Mansion House in Dublin, and attracted a wide array of players from all across Europe to create a prize pool worth €463,078 ($636,350). By the time the final table of eight had been reached, Kevin Killeen was the chip leader on a 3.5m stack, with nearest competitor Robert Sturman almost a million chips adrift with 2.695m in chips. In third and fourth places were then two former UKIPT Dublin Champions in the guise of Max Silver (2.5m) and Joeri Zandvliet (1.31m), with other finalists at the table including Dirk Thijssen (1.29m), Larry Ryan (920k), Chris Wood (650k), and Ivan Tononi (435k).
Kevin Killeen (Q-Q) then bested Larry Ryan (10-9) on a K-J-7-J-Q board to eliminate his fellow Irishman in 7th for €12,830, and soon after Max Silver did likewise to Joeri Zandvliet in 6th (€17,700), and Dirk Thijssen in 5th (€23,100). After three-handed play was reached, Kevin Killeen (K-Q) then took care of Chris Wood (7-6) in 3rd (€38,400) to go heads-up against Max Silver for the title.
As the final battle commenced, Max Silver held an 8.35m to 5m chip advantage over Killeen, but after extending his lead by 3 to 1 Silver failed to close out his opponent, who subsequently gained the lead before the defining hand was played. Silver had shoved preflop with Qs-8s, and after Killeen called with Kc-Qc, the board fell 6-4-2-3-A to eliminate Silver in a runner-up spot worth €53,700, while Kevin Killeen was crowned the champion.
