Grzegorz Gosk Wins Estrellas Poker Tour Ibiza
September 26, 2011 8:56 amGrzegorz Gosk has just won the Estrellas Poker Tour Ibiza, after overcoming a 426 strong player field to lift the trophy and collect €92,100 ($132,119) in prize money.
By the time time the €1,000 tournament reached its final table in Spain, Grzegorz Gosk found himself the lone Pole at a table where seven of the eight players remaining were Spanish.
Nevertheless, undaunted by his task or the fact he was starting the day fifth in chips, Grzegorz Gosk stuck to his guns and four hours later had scored the biggest win of his poker career. Commenting later on his remarkable victory, the Polish player said:
“This is the best time in my life. It’s my sixth live poker tournament and this is my biggest win.”
During the first hour of play at Casino Ibiza, the number of players at the final table had already been cut in half.
First to exit in 8th (€10,050) was a short-stacked Alvaro Marino, who pushed his 6d-2d from the small blind into big blind Carlos Simon Martinez’ A-10. Soon joining him on the rail were Javier Tazon in 7th (€12,650), and Raul Paez in 6th (€15,800).
Alvaro Santamaria then eliminated Manuel Martinez in 5th (€19,550), Jeff Zsolt Soros in 4th (€25,500) and Carlos Simon Martinez in 3rd (€32,500) to go heads-up against Grzegorz Gosk.
Despite Manuel Martinez holding a 3.895m to 2.375m chip advantage over his opponent, the swingy affair eventually saw Santamaria all-in preflop holding A-4 to Gosk’ A-Q. With the board then falling K-7-2-2-Q, Alvaro Santamaria had to content himself with a runner-up finish worth €58,600, while full accolades were bestowed upon Grzegorz Gosk.
Later heaping praise on his Polish opponent, Alvaro Santamaria said:
“Gosk was a very good player and I knew it. He was not aggressive at all and it was impossible for me to pick up any tells.”
