Doyle Brunson Completes PartyPoker Premier League IV Lineup
January 28, 2010 7:33 amPartyPoker and Uk sports event promotions company Matchroom Sport have given the final invitation for Premier League IV to the ‘Godfather of Poker’ himself Doyle Brunson.
Following the news of Doyle’s inclusion in the lineup, the Managing Director of Matchroom Sport Eddie Hearn commented: “It’s an honour that Doyle has accepted his invitation to the Premier League. He is a true legend of the game and I’m so excited to watch him in action against such an eclectic mix of players. The Premier League has become the world’s number one televised poker event and it’s by far the strongest line up the event has ever seen.”
Doyle Brunson’s poker career has spanned over 50 years during which time he has won in excess of $5,800,000 from live tournament cashes, including accumulating 10 WSOP bracelets with 2 back to back main event wins in 1976 and 1977. He has also written what is generally considered the most influential book on poker ever written in 1978 called Super/System, and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1988.
Doyle seemed delighted to be participating in Premier League IV and the veteran poker player was clearly relishing the prospect of mixing it up with such talented and young competition:
“I’m happy to have the challenge of playing against all these great players. I know a lot about many of them but, of course, all the young players from the internet are very aggressive good players. It is impossible to make a favorite to win this because every player in this field is capable of winning. I feel I have as good a chance as anyone,” said Brunson.
The Main Event will take place between the 12th and 18th, will have a prize pool of $1.5 million and has a final lineup which includes David Benyamine, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Phil Hellmuth, JC Tran, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Roland de Wolfe, Luke Schwartz, Tony G and of course Doyle Brunson. The two final places at the competition will go to an online qualifier and the other to the winner of the PartyPoker Premier League play-off.
