Daniel Wilson Wins 2016 Irish Poker Open
March 31, 2016 11:44 amIrish pro Daniel Wilson has won the 2016 Irish Open Main Event, after defeating a field of 802 players over four days on his way to capturing the title, and collecting a first place prize worth €150,000 ($167,920), representing his best live cash to date.
Following his victory at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Daniel Wilson now boasts $442,631 in live tournament earnings, to go with the $1,928,717 he has won online playing under the screen name ‘NukeTheFish’.
The €1,150 Irish Poker Open featured a prize pool worth €801,500, with 95 players subsequently seeing a return on their investments. By the time the final table of nine had been set, Michael Conaty was the chip leader on a 6.2m stack, followed by Daniel Wilson with 4m, and Igor Arkhipov in third spot with a 2.5m in chips.
Daniel Wilson then sent both Michael Rossiter (9th) and Igor Arkhipov (8th) to the rail in a double-elimination hand. He followed up by doing likewise to Brian Nolan (7th), Vegard Ropstad (4th), and Tomas Soederstroem (3rd) to set up the final battle against fellow Irishman Michael Conaty for the title.
At the start of heads-up, Wilson enjoyed a 14.84m to 9.025m chip advantage over his remaining opponent, and before long the deciding hand was played with Wilson (A-K) and Conaty (9-9) moving all-in preflop. The dealer subsequently laid out an A-5-2-6-6 board to consign Michael Conaty to a runner-up finish worth €85,000, while Daniel Wilson was crowned this year’s Irish Poker Open champion.
