China's Jian Yang Wins APPT Macau ACOP For $219,252China’s Jian Yang has won the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau HK$25,000 (US$3,225) Warm-Up Event, after besting a field of 338 players on his way to capturing the title, and collecting the HK$1.7m (US$219,252) first place prize.
By the time the PokerStars sponsored tournament reached its final table of nine, Jian Yang (2.61m) held a commanding chip lead with nearest competitor Wei Hsiang Yeu a long way behind on a 1.257m stack.
Jian Yang then appeared to take a back seat, while Yeu first eliminated Paul Cheng in 9th, before being dealt Ks-2s and eliminating Tom Alner (8s-7s) in 7th on a 9-3s-5s-6-J board.
Soon after,Jian Yang (J-J) then dispatched Yibo Zhou (9-9) to the rail in 6th, before Wei Hsiang Yeu resumed his assault on the final table once more, this time eliminating 2013 APPT Melbourne Main Event champ Billy “The Croc” Argyros in 4th place.
Jian Yang (K-10) subsequently flopped a straight on a Q-J-9 board against Ireland’s David Foran (Q-9) two pair, and after the turn and river produced a 7 and 2, the heads-up battle between Jian Yang and Wei Hsiang Yeu was set.
As the heads-up battle commenced, Yang held a 4.14m chip advantage over Malaysia’s Yeu on a 2.57m stack. One hand is all it would then take for Yang (Ac-4c) and Yeu (Kh-8h) to get it all-in pre-flop, and after the board rolled out K-Q-3-7-A, Jian Yang was crowned the 2013 APPT Macau ACOP Warm-Up champion.
