Carlos Chang Wins 2012 APT Macau
August 2, 2012 12:11 pmTaiwanese player Carlos Chang has won the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Macau Main Event, after defeating a field of 268 players over three days on his way to collecting the title, as well as the HKD$1,913,200 (US$246,625) first place prize.
The HK$25k (US$3,220) buy-in APT Macau Main Event attracted many of Australasia’s top talent, who weren’t in attendance at the 2012 Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) in Queenstown. These included Oliver Speidel, Joe Hachem, Jeff Rossiter, Andrew Scott, Charles Chua, Aaron Lim, Daniel Laidlaw, Jay Tan and Celina Lin.
By the time the final table had been reached at the Starworld Hotel, UK’s Samad Razavi was sitting on a short stack and was first to exit in 9th after being busted by Carlos Chang, whose pocket deuces held up against Razavi’s K-10 shove. As the players began to fall, start of the day chip leader Richard Zhu lost two key pots against Chang, first by his opponent’s rivered full house and then his rivered flush before Chang finally dispatched him in 3rd for HK$478,300 (€50,211).
Carlos Chang then took a 7 to 1 chip advantage over Team Poker King Club player Winfred Yu going into the heads-up phase of the competition. Not long after, Carlos Chang (10d-8d) called Yu’s (Qc-4c) all-in bluff shove on a Jd-10s-4h-Ad board with the Js river sealing Yu’s fate, who finished the runner-up for a HK$1,016,400 (€106,700) payday.
Meanwhile, Carlos Chang was crowned the APT Macau Main Event champion and walked away richer to the tune of HK$1,913,100 (€200,835).
